CO2 erosion
Carbon dioxide is a key influence in karst cave formation, so the internal environment is extremely susceptible to changes in CO2 levels, such as CO2 from human breath. Above 2400ppm, water within the cave becomes acidic and corrodes the cave formations, causing tens of thousands of years of damage.
